With the craziness that has corrupted the Warhammer Fantasy community surrounding the End Times releases by Games Workshop, for good or for ill, the Warhammer world is changing.
Is it changing too much for your tastes?
With every edition change or massive release like this, it’s bound to stir some anger and frustration within a gaming community that is content with the way the game plays. These feelings are normal and typically cause some exodus within any gaming community. If you are feeling the tug of this rapture effect, I may have the answer for you…Kings of War!
Kings of War is an army battle game on the same scale as Warhammer Fantasy. The game plays faster than Warhammer Fantasy and the models are cheaper. In my opinion, as a model manufacturer, Mantic does have some catching up to do to reach the quality that Games Workshop produces. But, you get what you pay for and you can often create an army from Mantic miniatures for a fraction of what it takes to create a similar size army from GW miniatures.
What is also amazing is that due to the similar scale as well as square basing of those models, many times it’s not hard to produce an army that can play in both game systems with a minimal amount of unusable models for both gaming systems.

I was fooled by the huge orc and wizard backdrop – thought they were making a statement about the Herohammer-ness of the End Times (all you need is One Big Model!) 🙂
